Following the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, the area surrounding the volcano underwent permanent changes, becoming a barren and destroyed wilderness covered in ash. However, in the middle of the disorder and devastation, a soldier stationed in the region has a terrifying and inexplicable encounter with a monster that would later be identified as the bat-squatch. The unnamed soldier was a member of a search and rescue squad assigned to meticulously search the ash-covered landscape for survivors and evaluate the degree of the destruction caused by the volcanic explosion.
