The coach of the Las Vegas Raiders and former ESPN announcer apparently wrote some emails a decade ago insulting his boss while using a homosexual slur, or as it’s being reported “misogynistic and homophobic comments.” So he’s out as the coach of the Raiders. Jon Gruden has been canceled.
And it will not be easy for the 58-year-old Gruden to find work doing anything in the foreseeable future.
I for one would like to also see all the private emails of those people who leaked the emails and of those who decided to cancel Gruden. Maybe once everyone is cancelled, no one will be! Maybe that’s what it’ll take.
Now, you can decide for yourself if this is fair or not, Gruden’s had a target on his back for years. Certainly, notable people shouldn’t ever use racial and gender slurs, but nobody was a victim of Gruden’s comments in his private emails. Nobody was harmed. The people who received the emails probably didn’t care one way or the other. Nobody else knew about them. Nobody was ever hurt or even offended. So let’s call it what it is: Gruden was canceled for thought crimes, that and his political beliefs.
And how did Chuckey’s emails become public in the first place? Who knows, but someone fed Gruden’s emails to the press and sadly that’s to be expected these days, especially when you’re not a part of the “woke culture.” And make no mistake about it, Jon Gruden isn’t “Woke.”
As NFL columnist Charles Robinson put it today in his Yahoo Sports article: “In some ways this is only the beginning. It was just another loaded exchange in a political and culture war that has simultaneously consumed and transcended sports. That much was guaranteed when The New York Times included details about Gruden’s emails through anti-gay and misogynistic lenses and his criticisms of former President Barack Obama and then-Vice President Joe Biden.”
Make no mistake, this was all political. The left has succeeded in taking out one of the biggest figures in the history of the NFL. It’s been coming for years and is no surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention. And Robinson’s right, it is only the beginning, like sharks, when the left smells blood in the water they all rush in for a feeding frenzy, Jon Gruden’s just the first to go down and the rest are now on notice.
It’s more than ironic that the same day as news breaks about Gruden’s cancellation, comedian, Jon Stewart says that the cancel culture does not even exist. It’s hard to believe Stewart actually thinks that when the rest of us see it almost every day in America. In our country today any person can be ruined at any given moment whether they deserve it or not.
Bottom line here is that Jon Gruden is a relic, a representation of the way things used to be in the world of sports. A rough and gruff, politically incorrect dinosaur who speaks his mind and makes little old ladies blush and soy boy’s recoil in horror as they rush to their safe spaces.
The cancellation of Gruden is a prime example of the woakness of the sports we used to watch and the world we live in today. A brave new world where feelings are what matters most not whether you win or lose the game, a world void of the evil of ‘toxic masculinity’ and manly men doing manly things. The NFL has traded the football helmet for a pink pussy hat and Jon Gruden had better get out of way.
All of this nonsense is why so many fans like me have walked away from professional sports. We don’t want to be preached to by condescending league officials, over paid athletes and media talking heads turned social justice warriors and Marxist activists. We get enough of that from our politicians these days.
Like everything it touches, wokeness has ruined sports today. As the poet Maya Angelou said, when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Professional sports has made it clear to all of us, they don’t care what the fans want or what we think, this is the way things are going to be from now on and we should just get used to it and get out of the way.
And just like Jon Gruden, I’ve stepped aside and so should you.
