The majority of House Democrats from New York on Friday called on Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign from office in the wake of sexual harassment allegations and his handling of Covid-19 deaths at state nursing homes.
The New York congressional members had been largely silent as Democratic state lawmakers were leading the calls for Cuomo’s resignation in the wake of the allegations.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s grip on power appeared increasingly threatened Thursday as a majority of state legislators called for his resignation, Democrats launched an impeachment investigation and police in the state capital said they stood ready to investigate a groping allegation.
The firestorm around the Democrat grew a day after the Times Union of Albany reported that an unidentified aide had claimed Cuomo reached under her shirt and fondled her at his official residence late last year.
The woman hasn’t filed a criminal complaint, but a lawyer for the governor said Thursday that the state had reported the allegation to the Albany Police Department after the woman involved declined to do so herself.

A man was arrested in Puerto Rico after the dead bodies of his grandmother and uncle were discovered inside a burning trailer home in Florida, officials said Thursday.
Bryan Merced Pacheco, 46, is now waiting to be extradited to Orange County on first-degree murder and arson charges in the deaths of Minerva Rivera Gonzalez, 79, and Felix Morales, 73, whose bodies were found in their central Florida home on Feb. 19.
It’s unclear when he’s expected to return to the Sunshine State to face the charges, deputies said.
Gonzalez and Morales were discovered dead by firefighters inside a double-wide trailer where they lived, which was 70 percent consumed by flames, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
