The heroic actions of a legally armed bystander saves countless lives after stopping a Pennsylvania mall shooting this week.

A media release from the Lancaster County Bureau of Police tells of the harrowing moments before the unnamed bystander took action.

According to the report, an unnamed 16-year-old male opened fire after engaging in a fight with another person. The teen, according to WGAL-TV, pulled out a gun and began firing multiple shots.

It was at that point, the report noted, several people became involved in a dangerous struggle with the teen for the gun.

The legally armed bystander then intervened and was able to hit the teen suspect, putting him down with one shot.

According to the release…

“An uninvolved bystander was in a nearby store and heard the first set of gunshots. This bystander was armed with their own, legally possessed firearm.”

“The armed bystander then engaged the subjects fighting over the gun and fired shots, striking one of the subjects. The struggle ended and the bystander waited at the scene until officers from the Lancaster City Police and Park City Security arrived and took control of the scene. The bystander was interviewed and released. The district attorney will be responsible for determining if the actions of the bystander were lawful and justified, upon the completion of the investigation.”

Three males and one female, including the teenage suspect, were treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds sustained in the attack.

Witness Hana Ali said that the Good Samaritan’s presence likely made all the difference.

“I don’t know what he did before, but at that moment, he is the one that should be — he is a hero,” Ali, an Iraqi native, said. “It reminds me of the Desert Storm war when I was there. It was awful. The sounds of shooting, it’s really bringing things back to you. It’s so terrifying.”

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the the incident, including the bystander’s actions. Formal charges against the 16-year-old suspect are pending.

Firearm’s are used to save lives every day. But sadly, the only time the national news media want to spend several days covering a firearms story is when the guns are used in a negative way. If it bleeds it leads, unless the gun is used to save lives.

We have the facts on our side, we have these facts due in large part because of research directed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that guns are used 16 to 100 times more often to protect life than to take life. That means there are a whole lot more “guns save lives stories” not being reported by the lamestream media.

And as much as the Editorial Board’s of all major newspapers and News Directors & Producers of cable news outlets wish to discount the idea of the “good guy with a gun,” let’s not forget that almost 90% of police agree that mass shootings would be “reduced” or “avoided altogether” by the presence of legally armed citizens.

There are multiple examples of good guys or gals stopping mass shooters from all over the country, and the FBI has documented some of them. But it’s worth noting that the very types of firearms the Editorial Board wants to restrict are extremely popular — and are frequently used in the defense of life:  

►A Houston man fired several rounds while fighting off five home invaders this year, using his AK-47 as his primary means of defense.

►A Florida man utilized his AR-15 to fire 30 rounds while fighting off seven intruders last year. 

►A petite Maryland mom chased three burglars out of her home simply by loading a round into the chamber of her AR-15.

And by the way, all these victims were facing multiple attackers, which necessitated having firearms that held multiple rounds.

Finally, we have been hit by a series of mass shootings over the years, these mass shootings are nothing short of terrorist attacks. But terrorists, whether acting as a “lone wolf” or organized, planned out or spur of the moment, don’t care about our gun laws, any more than the terrorists who ignored France’s draconian gun control laws in 2015 and used fully automatic firearms to murder 90 people at the Bataclan theater.

No, if terrorists were to strike in a mall in your neighborhood, you should hope and pray there will be people like Stephen Willeford — a retired plumber who used his AR-15-style rifle to mortally wound a de facto terrorist in Texas five years ago. Or as this unnamed man did in Pennsylvania this week.

Arm yourself and refuse to be a victim.
