Once upon a time, on a particularly warm summer’s day the Truth and the Lie meet while walking on a country road just outside of a small village.
The Lie says to the Truth, “It’s a marvelous day today”!
The Truth looks up to the skies and sighs, for the day truly was marvelous. They walk together for a while, until they reach a beautiful well.
The Lie says to the Truth, “The water in the well is very nice, and it’s such a warm day, we should take a swim together!” The Truth, being a bit suspicious, tests the water and discovers that indeed it is very nice. “Yes it is,” said the Truth, “And it is a very warm day, the water of the well would be quite refreshing.”
So, they both undress and climb into the well. The water was wonderful and then, suddenly, the Lie jumps out of the well, puts on the clothes of the Truth and runs off towards the nearby village.
The Truth is furious and leaps out of the well running to find the Lie and get back her clothes.
The Villagers, upon seeing the Naked Truth, are horrified and look away with contempt and outrage.
The Truth is so embarrassed she quickly returns to the well where she disappeared, forever hiding her shame.
And from that day forward, the Lie travels the world, dressed as the Truth, and society is very happy.
You see, the world has no desire to know the Naked Truth.
The original Lie and The Naked Truth story comes from sometime in the late 18th Century, and here we are some 200 years later and the story has more relevance than ever before.
