This video was captured by jihadists who entered the abandoned Iranian consulate in Aleppo after the Syrian army’s retreat from the area a few days prior. Throughout the video, the speaker refers to the Iranians disparagingly as “pigs” and “dogs.” Inside, he discovers bones packed in bags and a skull.
Why were these items found in the Iranian consulate?
One social media user speculates that the Iranians might have brought the bones, the origin of which is unclear, to bury them in the Aleppo region. The purpose would be to later claim the site as a Shia shrine, justifying the construction of a religious compound around it, thereby securing control over the area. It’s worth noting that Aleppo is predominantly a Sunni stronghold in Syria, and Iran’s intention could be to alter this demographic balance by establishing Shiite holy sites.
